CLEO WIP

It was a pretty long day of work today (even though it's a Wednesday - no school). My group was just focused enough to get things done and over with.

Progress was rather average during the past weeks, with the weekly consultations and group discussions in-class. Furthermore, the postponing of the interim had put more pressure on us, as we had to finish up all the creatives in tight sketches for presentation.

Luckily, yesterday our progress was much better. All of us contributed to the tightening of sketches and pretty much areas have been completed.

Now the headache is the presentation itself. With only 10 minutes to spare, it is a chore to fit all information into that small amount of time. We have to cramp stuff and speak fast throughout. It ain't that easy I'd say.

Simplified Target Audience Personality Profile:
Jane is 25 years old and working in Social Marketing. She has a monthly income of $2800 with a busy work schedule and social life. She gets invites to formal meetings and constantly looks out for new make up, clothes and gadgets as she is image conscious.

Jane has been reading CLEO for more than 3 years already and is an avid follower. However, she does not know a thing about F1. She is currently attached to a boyfriend.

My visualization of target audience activities
Jane shops for skincare products and makeup and goes for beauty workshops at least once a fortnight. She feels that her looks are very important so she must keep her complexion top-notch. She would then need not use so much powder on her face when she make ups as the look will be quite fake.

During her free time, she would watch TV or else go clubbing. She connects to the internet through her Blackberry and loves using Facebook.

Industry Reflection

Based on your research and interviews so far, what you learned about the industry, and your own skill level, and about interpersonal communications in general, your aspirations and fears

Interviews make me nervous; afraid that my standard and skill level isn't good enough for them.

Company websites are the first way to find out about the company. From its navigation, looks, and projects will one then consider interviewing the company and emailing the company contact.
If the company works and focus appeals to me and I feel that it fits my capability, I'll request for an interview.

During my interview with Octopus Ink, I showed the guy my home-printed portfolio. I know that it wasn't at all impressive, but I just wanted to show my works to them. I showed more still life drawings and photography. He commented that knowing how to draw is indeed important, and that my photography was able to make my doll look realistic. He recommended that I should interview other companies perhaps under photography, because his company is rather small.

I did try to find other companies to see if I would feel right working there, through their website but the company size and work they do intimidate me. I decided that Octopus Ink can help me understand the industry a lot better than big companies. Since it is small, with a team of less than 5 people?, I feel I'd be able to work better and closer with them, and most likely learn more, so I'm sticking with Ink.

Ad WIP

12 Jan
I thought I could finish the assignment soon with my present executions; I did receive some pleasant comments from my peers. However, it turns out that my idea wasn't as good as hoped it was. I was told to change it.
I was disappointed in myself. Sad that I had to rethink and re-execute the visuals. I found it hard to think for a while...
13 Jan
Still no progress from before, I was feeling down all the while. I waited for time to pass by, and a miracle happened - the deadline was pushed back! I just felt lucky that I had a chance for consultation and gain help and feedback for the new execution. I still had time.
15 Jan
Consulted and able to begin new execution. BDS class has ended. Finished 1st cut of execution. Asked feedback from others - rather positive. Emailed files to Mr Azhar for comments and suggestions.

17 Jan
No reply from email. Will have to proceed with printing of executions without further help. Finishing up report.
18 Jan
Submission day. 12AM. Finishing report soon and will print and bind. Will spray mount prints. Will burn CD. All done by morning.

Design Leadership

What is your definition of a leader?
A leader is a person who guides others in doing what is the best for everyone and themselves.
A leader can also be someone who has good qualities in an aspect and can be a role model for others.

What are some qualities of a leader?
A leader must know what to do, and be good in an aspect to guide others in that aspect.
A leader can also be one who gets a team started in discussions so that something can be done, all the way to its completion.

How have you been a leader (and not) in the time you have been in school? Reflect on your goals, and the gaps in your life, and the promises you have kept, and broken. How do you intend to restore those gaps, and do better in the next lap?
I have been a leader, perhaps in helping (or guiding) others when they needed some help in areas (such as Maya functions or last-minute assignment rush).
I have also been there for others when they had things they weren't happy about, and needed someone to complain/talk it out.
Goals that I may have made in the past, well, most probably I had forgotten most already. I do remember that I said I wanted to ensure that I would be able to finish assignments at least a day before submission date. However, it wasn't done well enough, due to unforeseen circumstances such as last minute changes and schedule issues. I wanted to have this goal mainly because of myself, as I feel that I would be able to be less stressed out.
In the next lap, I hope to manage my time better so that work can be done without too much last-minute rushing. Besides, it is for my own benefit so there's no reason why I wouldn't want to to it.

What are some areas you could lead in design? Be specific.
I'm not certain at this point in time. Although I say that I like to draw, I feel that I don't have a style that I can call 'my own' as of yet. I'm not sure of which direction I'd want to head. (I hope that my ITP can help clear my queries.)

How do you intend to be a leader in your upcoming assignment, career, and life? What are you going to do to make it happen?
For the assignment, I just want to finish it on time without too much worries.
For my career, first of all, I need to know what job I want to do.
For my life, I just want to have control of the things I need to do, such as work, health and happiness. From there, I can be there for others and lead others along my life-path.

It can happen as long as I persevere, am focused and organized, and know what I need to do very clearly, along with great support from family and peers.

Metro Advertising WIP

I've started the designs of the 3 ads, execution was quite tough whereby the objects have to look realistic/recognisable and understandable. It's about 50% done.
I've also begun on the report.
Research will have to be compiled in as well.
